Lesson Learned

Ok the 3/16 Aluminum is a pain to cut. So I'm getting a band saw to do the rest of the cutting.
Also I decided to get a Mig Welder to do the welding.
Soon as I get the parts cut, I'll post pics of the parts before and after welding them.

Aluminum is In

Yeah 3/16 is thick stuff, But thats what I ordered.
I don't know if the Flat Pack idea will work, But I'm not giving up.
I'll have some new post soon, With the pieces cut out.

Aluminum

The Aluminum is on its way!!!
I ordered 3/16 and it should be very strong.
Once I get it, I'll make the Ankles and post some pics.
If this works, I hope to get a run going at R2 Builders Club.
I'd like to do it as a Flatpack.

Blueprints or Practice

I used a blueprint of the Outer Ankle for practice.
Getting parts sometimes can be a slow process, So then you make it yourself.
I'll be using 3/16 Aluminum for the ankle. I'll cut the pieces myself and get them welded at my local shop. Had a problem getting small amounts of Aluminum and someone posted
this site : www.asapsource.com. I'll just order from them.

Big Beefy Parts

These where made by Keith at ResinParts.com.
They go on the side of the Ankles, Which I don't have yet.
Originally they were made part of the ankle but its easier this way.

Kelly's Budget Feet

Just came in the mail today. So soon I'll be getting them ready for J.B. weld and priming.
The spot welds will have to go, Too rough.

Coin Returns

Also from the extra Aluminum from the skins.
The inner cupped area, I got a template from Chris Lee's blog.
The bends are a little hard to get straight, But here again I saved more money.
Thanks Chris for the idea and the wonderful template.

1st Hand made Vent

When you buy the Aluminum skins, Make sure you save the extra panels.
I made my own Vent from one of the panels.
I know its not as good as a laser cut vent, But it sure saved some money .
To make the deep boxed area, I used some 1 inch Aluminum tubing.
Its not perfect, But it works.

No not Darth Vader it's Short Vader

Yea Lightsabers Too

We're nuts about Star Wars, Can't you tell?

Just for Fun

This is my past time. My Nintendo DS is now my R2D2-DS. With that loving R2 starring at you and Kriders Blue paint scheme.

A&A Frame Side View

I've installed the Sat. motors and below them I installed 2 small subs for sound.
I also installed 2 Batts. in the lower area to power the Sat. motors.

The Famous A&A Frame

The frame is a work of art. You'll have to buy the metal screw shafts and the nuts & bolts.
I have'nt pvc glued the parts together yet, Because I want to make sure everything fits before I glue it up.

John's Outter skin

The outter skin we painted following Kelly Kriders paint scheme.

John Sherrell's Aluminum Skins

I was lucky enough to get in on this part run. Heres the inner skin, Which we decided not to paint.
It won't be to specs by not painting the inner, But I like the aluminum shinning through the cracks.

R&J Aluminum Dome Inner

The inner dome can be fustratting to cut, But it's worth the time it takes to get it finished.
As you can see, I'm not finished cutting the panels yet. I used a Dremel and a Metal file.

R&J Aluminum Dome

This was our first purchase and the Quality was outstanding.
We've removed the panels for fitting and polishing.
Thanks Ron for the perfect Dome.
