Weathering Comparison

Here's a comparison of a weathered R2 and my R2. As you can see in the pics the detail panels show up much better than mine shows. I'm thinking more and more about this and I really like the dirty look. And with mine in the sunlight, You can't see the details at all.

That would be Gerard's R2 at WonderCon 2008. The full photo is on my website which includes my unweathered Artoo

Even though my panels show on an un-weathered droid, I'm still probably going to some light weathering like Gerard.

That's how I want to weather mine.
He did a great job at not over doing the shades.

Now yours, I'm not sure about weathering because your panels show real good like Victors and I've been talking with him about not weathering his R2.
But he's decided to do a light weathering on his R2, So I'd wait and see how it looks before you dress your R2.

i'm pretty sure he started off heavy and then backed off/removed it. which yellowed the white quite a bit.

maybe drop him a message and ask him how he did it and what problems he had.

victor is fortunate that he has another artoo on the way, so can afford to have one weathered and one minty mint :D

Hmm..I may have to do some light weathering. I think even a little more would look good...

BUT start small and add later. You can only go one way with it I spose.

High Guys!! Interesting discussion and I uderstand your dilemma Calvin. Maybe in the end I just do 2 "regular" artoos, one mint and one weathered. I even concidered weathering the "regular" and minting the red artoo. I'm mentioning all of this because its soon time forme to pick my colours and once I get started I can't go back. Does anyone know if someone has weathered the red artoo?

I don't know of anyone that has weathered a red R2.
It's such a large decision to make since you work as best you can to make the paint perfect and then you dirty it up.
But as you can see in the pics, It sure makes R2 look like R2 :o)
My family hates the idea, But I've allready got some scars on R2 and when he gets in the public he'll get more.
So dirty on my friend!!!

I think a clean Red droid looks great. I would probably never weather one. Now an R4G9, which is my sons favorite, I would dirty up. I was actually considering doing R4 before we finally made up our stubborn Irish minds and went with our ALL TIME favorite.

Like I told you before, I like the look of your R2 alot, but its your choice. Besides.....How could you wanna dirty up that mirror dome of yours? LOL

Talk to you soon buddy!!
